Design Thief’s are Everywhere

4 Feb

Great artist steel? So do corporations, neighbors and co workers. Design thief’s, they are everywhere! It happens to everyone, and probably more than once. Recently Atlanta based artist Tori LaConsay’s work was copied by  H&M. With a lot of pressure from the bad publicity via social media and regretsy.com they finally tried to make it right. You can see from this photo posted on regretsy.com of Tori’s work on the left and the H&M’s version on the right how similar they really are. Read the about her complaint and updated response  here. I am really glad it worked out for Tori and brought attention to her work, but what about all of the other artist big companies had ripped from? What do you do when your work is copied? Hopefully this will make it easier to hold people accountable.

Tribal Inspired Designs

6 Dec

I am really proud of my Indian Heritage. I have great memories of going to the Indian Reservation with my Grandmother, Pearl. I love geometric shapes, so I am also inspired by Native American art. These are some tribal-ish prints I have been working on. I am not sure exactly where I am going with it yet, but I like it. Mini prints? Tea towels? Maybe Santa will bring me a gift card to Spoonflower!?

Ivory Soap: Is New Better?

3 Nov

Ivory soap has a new look. Even though it has more color it still looks very generic and boring. Maybe that is what they are aiming for. I love, love, love, their original packaging! I would buy the soap just for that. The original design is interesting, on trend, and would build on their brand history. Plus, who doesn’t love the cool factor! (more…)

Fat Eye Design

31 Oct

This is the logo I designed for Fat Eye Design. This etsy shop contains prints, textiles, and furniture. The name started as a joke. I was laughing with my friend, who is from China, about how all of my Asian friends think I look Asian. It is because I have almond shaped eyes and heavy eye lids. I told her I have some serious fat eye when I wake up and my eyes are puffy! It was funny, so I kept it. I have had a lot of people ask me what my ethnicity is, and I take it as a compliment. Have I peaked your interest? Both of my Grandparents were half Native America and half Irish. I proudly come from a long line of fat eyes!

Design Inspiration: Tipsy Textile

26 Oct

I love to look at people’s sketch books and see how their ideas are formed. Sometimes I am even surprised at how my own ideas grow. I have found that usually my most interesting concepts are found in the journey between having an idea and executing it. This textile design started from sketches of a mostly eaten bag of grapes.
