I know I am not alone when I get a birthday invitation for a kids party that is less than a week away and go into cranky mode. It throws a big wrench into my carefully planned schedule. This is why I have a gift closet stocked with items I find on sale. Now I get to show off how great I am at wrapping presents! I take a bag, insert gift, throw in some recycled tissue paper from Victoria’s secret for girls or Anthropologie for boys. I know this is really a disappointment from someone who is supposed to be creative, but it has become a family joke.
Since Addy and I have been hitting the party circuit so much I have have a sad Martha moment about my crappy gift wrapping. Sad Martha moments are when my love of Martha Stuart collieds with my need to have a perfect mommy moment. Such moments are usually prompted by birthdays and holiday and end in a meltdown. My solution was to make these gift tags and tie them, along with a piece of candy, to the handle of the lackluster Dollar Store gift bags.
Each tag is 2 x 4 inches and printed on thick white paper with a hand drawn name and tree base in black ink. I added color to the name with watered down acrylic paint and the tree top is Addy’s thumb print with un diluted acrylic paint. She loved making these trees so it made for a fun and easy project. When they were dry I added the hole punch(I used a small sized punch) and hemp string. Now we can just grab and go! You can download a template here of the tag with crop marks and the tree. Have a Martha moment!

I love to make what I think of as doodle patterns. A repetition of graphic shapes that form a larger image. I think my love of this grew from my great interest in my Indian heritage. My daughter is now also fascinated. That boys ran around with their ninnies showing is hysterical to her! These prints can be purchased here in my Etsy store!

I Made this, “Grace” print for one of my awesome customers who wanted it to go along with “Love” print. It made me think about the gifts of God: faith, hope, and love. I am going to turn this into a series by adding faith and hope. I just have to find some time! If only I had someone to do my yard work….. [...]

This is the logo I designed for Fat Eye Design. This etsy shop contains prints, textiles, and furniture. The name started as a joke. I was laughing with my friend, who is from China, about how all of my Asian friends think I look Asian. It is because I have almond shaped eyes and heavy eye lids. I told her I have some serious fat eye when I wake up and my eyes are puffy! It was funny, so I kept it. I have had a lot of people ask me what my ethnicity is, and I take it as a compliment. Have I peaked your interest? Both of my Grandparents were half Native America and half Irish. I proudly come from a long line of fat eyes!

I love to look at people’s sketch books and see how their ideas are formed. Sometimes I am even surprised at how my own ideas grow. I have found that usually my most interesting concepts are found in the journey between having an idea and executing it. This textile design started from sketches of a mostly eaten bag of grapes.
