Old Southern Charm

3 Jun

I recently visited Rosealie Mansion in Natchez, Mississippi. This home was built in 1823 and overlooks the Mississippi river. What I love most about old homes is learning how they were designed to function for the lives of the people that lived there. Old Southern homes have their decoration, but they are also built to make the best of the smothering heat and bugs that come with the many months of warm weather.

These designs, from Royal Oak Floors by Harper Sanilands in Australia, make me rethink my hatred for wood paneling.

I  love the  simple lines of furniture from the 1950′s. I really enjoy the process of giving something that has seen better days, a new life. Sometimes paint is the best choice to give vintage furniture a fresh and modern feel. In this case, I sanded and re stained the wood in a darker finish. Then I cleaned and re upholstered the chair.

Disney knows How to Market Their Products

17 Mar

In the beginning, when my growth as a mom only extended to the length of
my pregnant belly I boldly stated,”I am NOT going to have any off that tacky character crap in my house!” Never say never. For weeks I thought my two year old daughter was talking about a child at daycare named Belle, until she went crazy in Target at the sight of the Disney princess, yelling, “Belle! Belle!” She was the kind of blissfully happy that we envy as adults, how could I
deny her?
