Paula Scher: Serious Play

18 Mar

Paula Scher is one of my design heroes. When I came across this video it brought me out of a design funk. I had become weighted down with personal worries and trying to learn more programming. I had moved away from a very important part of being a designer. To make the time and space to have abstract thoughts, learn,  play, and make something that I could hold in my hand. In an AIGA interview Paula Scher is speaking about the using the computer and says, ” it doesn’t look like, it doesn’t smell like art.” I know exactly what she means, and I realized how much I had missed that.  Just the smell of mineral spirits and oil paint brings a smile to face and a flood of great memories. I knew I had to balance my Graphic Design life. So got serious about fine art again. I believe it is absolutely essential for me, not only spiritually, but to grow creatively in my design work as well. Check out Fat Eye design here or on esty in May to see some of my progress.
